Anklets: Childhood Staple Turned Lighthearted Sophistication

Beaded bracelets have been a rising trend recently; a childhood favourite, bought abroad in souvenir shops, have quickly become a light-hearted accessory for spring and summer.

During a particularly stressful week of uni, I bought myself a bracelet-making kit off of Amazon, to make my friends and I matching bracelets, all with our names and little love-heart beads on. The appeal of them is precisely that — they’re reminiscent of a 00s childhood staple, and in trying times like these, it’s only understandable that we embrace our nostalgic favourites.

This has, of course, trickled from bracelets to anklets. Anklets, in my opinion, are a pinnacle of summer fashion. Summer always feels more casual to me, and anklets — something so correlated to youthfulness — have become a favourite of mine. I love the idea of having different coloured anklets that can match your outfits — you may be wearing a pink top, and with a pink anklet on, you can help tie the entire outfit’s colour palette together.

Versace’s FW21 show displayed platform heels with ankle straps, resembling diamond bracelets. Although this is a misunderstanding on my half, the idea of more sophisticated anklets could transition the entire accessory from summer-only to a fun new autumn and winter trend.

The beauty of anklets, above all, is the way it can complete an outfit, whilst adding a whole new level to it. A little beaded anklet can make an outfit fun, but a pair of diamond anklets, or even pearls? They could add a whole new layer of lighthearted sophistication.
